Candidate's Statement

I grew up in Sayreville, the town next door, but when my husband and I were looking for our home, we chose Spotswood.  Over the past 32 years, we renovated our home so we could stay to raise our two sons, Jonathan and Jason.  As members of this town we have contributed to what makes Spotswood great, a strong community that supports each other in good times and in times of need.

Prior to COVID, I had never considered participating in any sort of politics. But it became evident that the town I had moved into over 30 years ago was not moving in the right direction. I wanted my town back - the one that consisted of residents who worked together to create programs for our kids, a library that was bursting with activity and senior citizens who were respected and included in town events.

The issues our small town has had to deal with were not the challenges I expected to face; but once I was elected to help improve things for everyone, I worked hard to make the decisions that were necessary to fix them. I asked the hard questions, did my research and had frank and open discussions with fellow members of council and our town administrators. It is important to consider that when tensions are running high, someone has to come in with a calm head so that all aspects of the concerning issue can be examined. I consider myself to have been a calm and reliable presence during my term. The residents of the town may not have agreed with all of my voting record, but I hope that it is acknowledged that those votes came with the reliability, the probing questions and the hard work behind the scenes that is necessary to make a decision that is in the best interest of the town and its residents.

This is essential when choosing the next council members to sit on the dais. Remember how your candidates have conducted themselves in the past, consider the skill sets they bring to the office and remind yourself that these qualities will predict who will be the most effective in creating change during their term.

I believe that keeping opportunities alive for our youth, our seniors, and to those in need is a way to keep things fair and balanced for all members of this community, so that when they rise, we all rise with them…together…as one united community.  As a member of the Spotswood Borough Council, my record shows I have acted to take the right ideas and turn them into the right actions to Help Keep Spotswood Moving Forward. That’s why I thank you for your support on November 3.
