About Dawn

As a teacher for 34 years, I know that supporting our children is a top priority.  Giving them opportunities to be safe, to grow and to socialize are very important to me.  Supporting programs such as SYBSL, Recreation Department events and school events in both sports and the arts was essential in those efforts.  Both of my children now pass on those values as well.  My son Jason played in the recreation soccer league and for Spotswood High School and is now a coach for a MLS NEXT Academy, passing on that same support to today’s youth.  My son Jonathan supports this town as a Deputy Director for our OEM department and our neighboring community of Monroe as a full time EMT.

Growing up, I had a large and loving family and was fortunate enough to know both my grandparents and great grandparents.  As my own parents get older, I know that supporting our senior citizens should be a priority in any town.  As your Councilwoman, I have worked diligently to provide them with the needed resources so they can enjoy their lives with as little stress and the most happiness possible.  I want to continue my work helping the seniors of Spotswood get all of these resources to live safe and healthy lives, so that the families and friends of this community can enjoy their company for as long as possible.

Dedicated Teacher

As an elementary-level teacher in Sayreville for
34 years, I know that our children's safety and well-being are a top priority for small, tight-knit communities like Spotswood.

Family-Centered

Being married for 32 years, raising two sons, being the daughter of two amazing parents and the sister to one of the strongest women I know, as well as growing up with an extended family that's 30+ members proud, I know what it means to being committed to family values and dealing with adversity. We can all get along, even if we disagree with each other - as long as we are fair in considering what the other person says.

Growth Mindset

In my 40's, I earned two Master's Degrees, one in Education and one in Educational Leadership (both MAEd). These degrees have made me a better teacher for my students as well as a leader in my school district and community.

It's never too late to improve yourself if you have the opportunity to do so - and when it comes to Spotswood, making opportunities that are fair and balanced for everyone is one of my top priorities.

Community is Everywhere You Are

My involvement in building better communities goes back decades, to when I was a member of my local church and with community theater groups in Old Bridge and Sayreville. My concern for others extended to three shifts with the Red Cross at Ground Zero; helping FEMA distribute food after Hurricane Sandy; delivering school supplies to a fellow teacher in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria; assisting Helmetta with their recovery after Hurricane Ida and even acting as the Easter Bunny as one of my first acts as Councilwoman!

I believe what has always made Spotswood great is the sense that we can come together to help those in need.  That's why my family chose Spotswood as our home 32 years ago.

SYBL1

Over the years that my boys were active in the community, I made myself available as a volunteer coach with the Spotswood Recreation Department, and Spotswood Youth Baseball and Softball League, lent a hand with the fabulous Spotswood PTA and for six years, the Spotswood High School Band Parents Association, serving for three years as that group's President.

I've lived a life in service to others. When my boys moved on, I continued that work by being elected as your Councilwoman. I wish to continue my work by supporting the residents of Spotswood.

I believe that my background and experience have provided me with the knowledge to ask questions, conduct research and make the decisions I feel are in the best interests of the town.
