Click Below to Meet Councilwoman Schwartz!

My first term as Councilwoman began in January of 2023. Although I had a lot to learn (and maybe still do), I believe I have made a positive impact on our town since that day and I have valued my time on council.

As an educator, I feel that it is important to consider the needs of our children. When I was asked to share my experiences as a Councilwoman with the Memorial Middle School civics class, I was grateful for the chance.

Our community has always been there for each other, even in the darkest times. When one of us suffers, the community has rallied together to help.
Providing support and resources for all of our residents continues to be a priority of my term as Councilwoman.

It has been an honor to support Asher Garcia and his family for Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness Day. Learning about this illness and supporting Asher through his journey has been a miracle to see.

I joined the Spotswood Community Emergency Response Team because as a Councilwoman, I felt it was important to support our town and local communities in times of need.
It is important for the community to know that their leaders are willing to step up when "life happens" and help is needed.

As part of my service, I was honored to be recognized by the Middlesex County Office of Emergency Management as CERT Member of the Year in 2023.

Throughout my term, I have been involved in training new CERT cohort members and welcoming them to the program as well, working side-by-side as we strive to "be the help when help is needed."

Being a good leader means keeping up to speed on what is going on in other communities and at the state level. As part of my continuing CERT education, I regularly attend meetings and training opportunities that are offered by Middlesex County and the state.

For the entirety of my term as Councilwoman, I have acted as the liaison between the Administration and our Public Library.
Our library provides our community with a variety of programs and social support, "Paws Up" being one of my favorite activities, when children read aloud to service animals in our community.

Another great event that I have supported is the Library's Summer Reading Program.
As an educator, I am aware of the importance of reading throughout the year, even when school is not in session. This program encourages students to continue their love of reading by providing fun activities and moral support.

As the liaison to the Recreation Department, participating with the committee in the organization of community events revives my energy and reminds me how wonderful our town is when we all come together.

One of my favorite parts of the job is assisting the Recreation Department by riding on Santa's fire truck handing out crafts and treats to the residents.

Supporting our local groups such as the Boys and Girls Scouts keeps our community growing. The children are our future and showing the value of community is important.

My third liaison position is with the Division of Senior Services. Over the past few years I have visited the Seniors many times during my "Cookies with a Councilwoman" chats to share some home baked goods and discuss their concerns such as street light issues to improve their safety and hiring a full time bus driver to improve their quality of life.

Participating in activities at the Office on Aging such as the Senior Olympics and their celebratory events helps me connect with our Seniors and gives me a chance to share in some fun times with them.

I love being a Councilwoman in this town and I have learned a lot in the past four years.
I've learned that being a public figure is more about what happens behind the scenes. While the public gets to see the person in the parades and celebrations, the real work has been done over long nights and weekends...

... but be assured that our council is made up of five members who can be great leaders by being a great team, something that I have a great deal of experience with. Good governance requires leaders who exhibit mutual respect, the ability to listen to others' opinions, and to consider all stakeholders.
These qualities are essential in this position and you deserve leaders who consider the community first above all.

I have been deeply honored to be considered as a trusted public servant by our local government leaders.
Our town has a nonpartisan form of government, something that is difficult to remember in these times. But I have not forgotten this and I continue to be a leader who will always vote for what is best for our town, above all else.

When I was recognized as a member of this distinguished group of women in politics by our state leaders, it was one of my greatest honors to have been welcomed as a part of this group of women who serve Legislative District 12.

Being there for your town, looking out for the best interests of its residents and ensuring the town is on solid ground for our children requires making difficult decisions.
It is easy to say that you are going to walk in and make changes - but experience teaches you that change comes in small, well-researched moments, which I will continue to do if you re-elect me to be your Councilwoman. Thank you for your continued support!
